" For over 30 years now, I have become proficient with many different mediums of painting and drawing, creating a variety of works with my signature style. Throughout my childhood, I took ten years of art classes given at the Kimbell, the Amon Carter, and the Modern Art Museums of Fort Worth, TX. After attending college at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1993-95, I lived in Las Vegas supporting myself as a caricature artist for five years. I moved to Austin in 2001 and since then I have been focusing on running my own business here in Austin doing caricatures, illustrations, face painting, and body art. For fun, I attend figure-drawing sessions held at the AVAA and the Dougherty Art Museum, and I enjoy sharing what I have learned. I love to work with other artists; sharing the excitement we feel when we do our art. We inspire each other!"
Attending this school opened my eyes to what life could be as a fine artist. I met some amazing painters, sculptors, and animators there. Living so far away from home gave my independent streak fuel to pursue a career in Las Vegas and made coming home to Texas all the sweeter."
Since her humble beginnings in 1990, Heather Joy has gone from a teenager making a summertime living drawing caricatures at Six Flags Over Texas, to studying art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, then spending 5 years in Las Vegas making a living as caricature artist, and finally settling in Austin, returning to her Texas homeland to continue building her career.
Heather draws amazing caricatures, her 20+ years of experience is apparent as she captures in an instant the likeness and personality of each person she draws with just a flick of her marker on the page and a few swipes of color!
Heather Joy has expanded her talents to include face and body painting! Using brush-and-sponge technique or airbrush, she only uses theatrical-grade FDA approved paints and cosmetic glitters, always careful to keep her kit clean and her applicators sterilized.
